Reading
Instructor: Mrs. Evola
As a reading teacher my primary focus in on facilitating a variety of strategies through which children can process and understand text.  I teach reading using the following 12 strategies:

  • Finding Main Idea
  • Recall Facts & Detail
  • Understand Sequence
  • Recognizing Cause & Effect
  • Comparing & Contrasting
  • Making Predictions & Connections
  • Finding Word Meaning in Context
  • Drawing Conclusions and Making Inferences
  • Distingusing Between Fact & Opinion
  • Identifying Authors Purpose
  • Inerpreting Figurative Language
  • Summarizing
By reading together with our children and discussing the books they read in meaningful ways, we can provide them with subtle guidance and an enjoyable reading experience while nurturing their growth as readers. The reading proces takes place as readers think Within, About and Beyond a text. My goal is to get Little Flower students to do just that!

The Most rewarding Aspect of being a Reading Teacher
The most rewarding aspect of teaching reading has been watching students begin to see themselves differently.  It never fails to amaze me as I observe them re-defining themselves as they gain more confidence in their abilities and their increased potential for the future.
